Programs That Open Doors
Five focused initiatives designed to fund curiosity, reward innovation, and connect the next generation of thinkers with the resources and mentors they need.
STEM/STEAM Education Grants
Funding the tools of discovery
Our STEM/STEAM Education Grants provide direct funding to students, educators, and schools working to expand access to science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics education. We believe that hands-on learning changes lives — and that every student deserves access to the tools that make it possible.
Grants are awarded to support classroom equipment, lab materials, project supplies, field experiences, and extracurricular STEM programs. We prioritize applicants from underserved communities where access to quality STEM education is most limited.
STEM/STEAM Education Grants
Eligibility
Open to K–12 students, educators, and accredited educational institutions. Priority given to Title I schools and underserved communities.
Award
Grants range from $500 to $5,000 per award cycle.
Innovation Micro-Awards
Rewarding bold ideas at every stage
The Innovation Micro-Awards program recognizes and funds young inventors, entrepreneurs, and problem-solvers who are actively developing original ideas. Inspired directly by David's own inventive spirit, these awards are designed to meet innovators where they are — at the earliest, most vulnerable stage of an idea.
Recipients receive both financial support and recognition within our network of mentors and partners. We believe that early validation and seed funding can be the difference between an idea that fades and one that changes the world.
Innovation Micro-Awards
Eligibility
Open to individuals ages 13–25 with an original concept, prototype, or early-stage project in any STEM or creative field.
Award
Awards of $250 to $2,500 with optional mentorship pairing.
Community Learning Workshops
Bringing discovery to every neighborhood
Our Community Learning Workshops bring hands-on STEM and innovation programming directly into communities — libraries, community centers, after-school programs, and public spaces. These free events are designed to spark curiosity in young people who may never have had access to a science lab or a coding class.
Workshops cover topics including basic electronics, robotics, environmental science, coding fundamentals, and creative engineering. Each session is led by volunteer educators, industry professionals, and foundation partners who donate their time and expertise.
Community Learning Workshops
Eligibility
Free and open to all community members. No application required. Events are scheduled throughout the year across our service region.
Award
Free to attend. Materials and instruction provided at no cost.
Mentorship Pathways
Connecting curious minds with guiding ones
Mentorship Pathways pairs young innovators and students with experienced professionals, educators, and entrepreneurs who can provide guidance, encouragement, and real-world perspective. We know that access to the right mentor at the right moment can change the entire trajectory of a young person's life.
Our mentors come from diverse fields — engineering, medicine, technology, the arts, business, and public service. Matches are made thoughtfully based on the student's interests, goals, and background. Mentorship relationships are supported with structured check-ins, resources, and community events.
Mentorship Pathways
Eligibility
Open to students ages 14–22 who have demonstrated curiosity and initiative in any STEM or creative field. Mentor applications also welcome.
Award
No cost to participants. Mentorship relationships run for a minimum of six months.
Legacy Scholarships
Investing in the future David believed in
The Legacy Scholarship program is our most significant investment in individual students — providing meaningful financial support to exceptional young people pursuing higher education in STEM, engineering, environmental science, or related fields. These scholarships are awarded in David's name and carry the full weight of his story.
Recipients are selected not only for academic achievement but for the qualities David himself embodied: curiosity, courage, originality, and a genuine desire to use their knowledge to make the world better. We look for students who think differently, who ask hard questions, and who refuse to accept that things can't be improved.
Legacy Scholarships
Eligibility
Open to graduating high school seniors and current college students pursuing STEM-related degrees. Financial need and demonstrated innovation are key criteria.
Award
Scholarships of $1,000 to $10,000 awarded annually.
